ESA grant to extend Forest Observation System

AfriTRON and RAINFOR co-ordinators Simon Lewis and Oliver Phillips have won a 40,000 Euros grant from the European Space Agency.

The project, coordinated by International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), will extend the impact of the 'Forest Observation System' (FOS) to which the AfriTRON, RAINFOR, T-FORCES and ForestPlots.net networks are partially contributing. FOS is a portal for forest biomass data, to assist the remote sensing community for calibrating and validating the new generation of space-based missions to estimate forest biomass.
